Balancing Studies, Internships, and Personal Life as a Law Student

As a law student, you can expect your lifestyle to be time-consuming, stressful, and hectic. Law School could be the most important time of your life, so how can one pursue being successful, a scholar, and having an enjoyable college life all in one? A balanced life, law student or not, is one of the most crucial lifestyle changes one must make for a more peaceful, fun, and efficient way of living. These are some standard tips for law students to properly balance studies, internships, and personal life.

Routine, Routine, Routine

Having a set routine as a law student will help create a daily habit of prioritizing and working on everything that needs to be completed. Routines generally allow for a much more manageable way to create habits to take care of the average day of a law student.

Proper Sleep Schedule

The average college student should get 7-9 hours of sleep every night to receive all the benefits that sleeping provides humans. Further, having a proper sleep schedule gives students a set time to start and end their days. Being a law student implies that you will consume drastic amounts of information each day. Enough sleep will only benefit overall brain functions such as concentration, memory, productivity, and problem-solving skills.

Self-Care and Happiness

As a human, self-care is one of the most important things that we can do to keep ourselves in check. Putting aside some time to do the things that you love is necessary for mental health, along with giving yourself a reward and some enjoyment to balance out all of the stress that you deal with. Self-Care also consists of what you do with your body and what you put in it such as physical activity and a balanced diet. The saying “A healthy body equals a healthy mind” is true in that physical activity and a healthy diet can improve learning and thinking skills and decrease anxiety/depression. Fewer mental barriers also allow for a clear thinking space for maximum knowledge intake.

Setting Your Priorities

There are several different responsibilities that students must take care of, but knowing which ones are the most important is how you create the desired balanced life. Understanding your priorities allows you to put more time and effort into what matters most in your college journey. For example, if a student is aware of a big exam in 10 days, they would adjust their management to spend more time studying or reviewing rather than doing homework for another class or hanging out with friends. Taking care of priorities first allows for a more peaceful and stress-free life.

Time Management

Being a law student, you can expect an action-packed day full of responsibilities and duties in such little time as it may seem. Time Management will allow one to plan out each part of the day in a detailed and effective way. This establishes maximum balance in all that must be completed daily, allowing for a much less stressful and clustered peace of mind.
